Affordable Care Act

by Reyna Vigil
Republican congress is trying to eliminate the Affordable Care Act in order to "benefit" the economy and American citizens.
Albert R. Hunt has written an article, In Congress, Obama’s Health Care Act is still a Target, posted in the New York Times. Hunt clearly explains now that the Rebublicans have won the senate in the most recent election that their next step forward is to get rid of the Affordable Care Act, if not then definitely changed the policies behind it. The Affordable Care Act has made a significant change in American citizens taxes. Now more Americans living in poverty are insured through this act that was passed in 2010 by the Obama administration. I believe that this act has benefited the economy and citizens. More people are insured giving them better resources and since more people have been attending health care facilities, it has given more opportunities for employment. If the Republican congress decides to dispose of this act, it will only result in more loss of employment.

Repiublicans are also trying to change the requirements for employers to provide health care insurance to their employees. It is currently a requirement to work at least 30 hours a week to receive any type of health care coverage. Republicans are planning on changing that to 40 hours a week. By getting rid of the health care reform or changing the policies behind it, they are expecting to raise approximately 29 billion dollars by 10 years. I cannot agree with this by any means. I believe that as a community and citizens that share this country that we live in, it is somewhat of our responsibility to look out for each other. I don’t agree to give my entire paycheck to benefit another, but if my fellow peer is suffering from unemployment and cannot afford health care, I believe that I am able to afford to give my share for that person to receive health care while they do search for employment. I don’t believe that getting rid of the health care reform will really benefit anybody in the end. I don’t believe in giving the American citizens something that has greatly benefited them then taking it back to chance making a certain amount of money within a such amount of time.
