A new god called Santa Claus

by Ted Rudow III, MA (Tedr77 [at] aol.com)
Many places today have gotten to where they have just about completely eliminated Jesus from Christmas. All it is a tree and decorations and Santa Claus and presents and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Jingle Bells!
They even call it "X-MAS"--to cross Jesus out of Christmas. In other words, to take Christ out of Christmas. In some cities, all you ever see are signs of "Xmas Holidays", "Xmas Sale!", "Xmas Shopping!", "Xmas, Xmas, Xmas!" They wouldn't think of putting up "Christmas"--that's the name of Jesus Christ!

And of course, They're got a new god called Santa Claus--who is really the big department store! One of the horrible horrors of it is, that when they teach their children about Santa Claus, and then they start teaching them about Jesus--the truth and the real story and meaning of Christmas--the poor kids think, "Oh, this is just another stupid idiotic fairly tale like the one you told me about Santa Claus!"

a) The "X" isn't the Roman X but the Greek and so is not crossing Christ out but using a short form. Not new, goes back to the days when writing on parchment, expensive, so all sort of contractions were used.

b) Santa Claus derived from a pre Christian deity. Only more "mythical" if you happen to be a Christian and so believe your gods are real but the gods of other people myth. For people who aren't Christians it's hard to see a difference in the real or not real status of other people's gods.

So let's see you try. Assume that the person to whom you are speaking is NOT a Christian. Prepare your argument why that person should consider your Christ less mythical than Santa Claus (in his earlier form). Is it somehow satisfying to you to be forced to arguments like "many people believe Christ is real and is god --- very few or none still believe in that older Pagan (false) god" << I assure you, few, not none, I do personally know some Pagans >> Gee, I didn't think we voted on gods, oh wait, I guess Christians did (the vote at Nicea was NOT unanimous)
