No Oppressive Rules at Santa Cruz Sanctuary Village

by Steve Conover
Santa Cruz Sanctuary Village should remove all rules re AA/NA attendence. These orgs are the most oppressive mind-control orgs with roots in Nazi Germany.

Dear Folks at Santa Cruz Sanctuary Village,

I noticed you have AA/NA written into the program at many levels. Are you aware that AA/NA has a 95% failure rate? It is also becoming known as one of the most oppressive of organizations. AA/NA creates the appearance that it is successful and popular by using Courts and Employers to coerce people to attend. So when you go to an AA meeting and it appears that it is popular and "working" the truth is that those people have been coerced to go there, they are not there of their own free will. AA/NA is a "religion," even thought they say they are not. There have been State Supreme Courts (NY and Hawaiil) that have agreed that sending someone to AA is a violation of the Separation of Church and State. Many, so many people have suffered from this coercion. To verify, see groups such as "Stop 12 Step Coercion" (a Yahoo Group). Also see the Orange Papers (http://www.orange-papers.org/). This is the most excellent presentation of lies and abuses by AA/NA, with evidence of roots of AA in the Nazis.

I am sharing this with you because I care about the homeless and have seen first-hand the oppression they experience. Please consider removing all references and rules about AA/NA from your plan and proposals.

I mentioned in a post yesterday requesting Santa Cruz Sanctuary Village to remove all rules requiring folks to attend AA/NA, informing them of the oppressive nature of these orgs. For those wanting to learn more about the historical facts of this oppression, links to sources are provided below.

There is a substantial body of case law recognizing that A.A. (and N.A.) is a religious body for purposes of 1st Amendment Analysis. See Cox v. United States, 296 F.3d 89, 108 n.11 (2nd Cir. 2002) (finding that A.A. is a religious organization under the Establishment clause and stating: “To the best of our knowledge, no court presented with an Establishment Clause claim implicating A.A. or a comparable therapy program incorporating religious concepts has reached a contrary [conclusion]”).

Noticed in the Santa Cruz Sanctuary Village many rules requiring folks to attend AA/NA, so posting to enlighten folks on the need to Stop 12 Step Coercion. Many folks were forced to attend AA/NA to get Food Stamps, many, so many homeless folks are forced to attend groups where they must hold hands and pray and told they are "powerless," and must admit so in order to "be in recover" and continue receiving benefits.

very similar to Santa Cruz Sanctuary Village Rules?

No one recognizes any of the non secular programs, despite years of effort on their part. The courts and social service agencies have taken the position those groups have no track record. Those organizations have sued and have had mixed results. In California, the rule was that going to meetings was voluntary. However in small counties like Santa Cruz AA/NA IS the only recovery program available. I've heard the solution is: "okay, if you don't want to go to meetings, that's fine. Getting GA or other social assistance is voluntary on your part too."

11/24/14 I see in the larger doc to SL you still say "imagine a partnership with...AA/NA. Why do you wish a partnership with these 95% Failure Rate orgs that are really religions?
