Gather at Livermore Lab to Protest Nuclear Weapons 7:30 AM: music, speakers, art, and a solemn moment of silence to honor radiation victims. 8:30 AM: short procession to the gate where those who choose will peacefully risk arrest. Come to the Livermore nuclear weapons laboratory’s northwest corner, at Vasco & Patterson Pass Roads, in Livermore. There will be parking set up at the rally site and vanpools from the Dublin-Pleasanton BART station (call 925-443-7148 to reserve a seat). On the 69th anniversary of the U.S. atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, we invite all who seek peace and justice to gather at the location where scientists are developing nuclear weapons. Each new weapon design involves upgraded features able to rain unimaginable devastation on a moment’s notice anywhere on Earth. The budget request reveals that 89% of the Livermore Lab’s funding (more than a billion dollars) will go to nuclear weapons activities in the coming year. Stand with the Hibakusha (A-bomb survivors) to proclaim "Never Again." No Nukes. Join us. Free. Co-sponsored by American Friends Service Committee, Asian Americans for Peace & Justice, Campaign Nonviolence/Pace e Bene, Ecumenical Peace institute, Fr. Bay Area peace and justice advocates will mark the 69th anniversary of the U.S. atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan at the Livermore Lab, where the U.S. is spending billions of dollars to create "new and modified" nuclear bombs.

The Wednesday, August 6, 2014 event is titled, "Failure to Disarm: Holding Our Government Accountable." Participants will gather at the northwest corner of the Livermore Lab (at Vasco & Patterson Pass Roads). The event begins at 7:30 AM.

The one-hour program will feature music, art and speakers. Rick Wayman of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation will offer the keynote address on the recent lawsuits brought by the Republic of the Marshall Islands against the U.S. and 8 other nuclear powers for their "Failure to Disarm."

At 8:30 AM, there will be a "call to action," immediately followed by a procession to the Livermore Lab West Gate, where a Japanese folk dance will be performed. Those who choose will peaceably risk arrest. Others will witness and support.

For more information, contact Tri-Valley CAREs at 925-443-7148 or Western States Legal Foundation at 510-839-5877.
