Senator Monning Statement on King City Police Department Corruption Scandal
(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel) issued the following statement regarding the King City Police Department corruption scandal:
I am incensed and outraged about the corruption scandal within the King City Police Department. These were individuals who were entrusted to protect the rights of everyone in the community. But instead of protecting and serving King City residents, they violated the public’s trust and preyed on some of the community’s most vulnerable residents.
I commend the Monterey County District Attorney, Dean Flippo, his team in the DA’s Office, the Monterey County Sherriff’s Department, the Salinas Police Department, and the FBI for all of the time and resources they have devoted to this long-term investigation in order to get to the bottom of this exploitation scandal.
While I hope this is an isolated incident, I fear it is not. There continue to be situations throughout the state whereby the immigrant workforce is subjugated to tyranny of those abusing their authority.
