IndyRadio Rocks the World December 5, 2013
In Thailand, it was a day of peace, as the country celebrated the 86th birthday of their king. This was preceded by 34 days of accelerating protests by opponents of the standing government. The only question remaining is how hard it will fall when the party ends.
In the next frame, firefighters extinguish a burning bus in Dhaka,Bangladesh. Workers had burned a sweatshop factory to the ground the previous day, a tough act to follow, but they tried for 72 hours with barricades intended to shut down the entire country. The question remains, who burned the barricades? Some opposition leaders claim the party in power was burning the Reichstag. A former president foresees civil war.
Centerstage, Occupy London reports at least one hundred students occupied Senate House at University of London in a protest for student workers, asking for civilised benefits and working conditions.
Outnumbered more than 2:1, they got beat by police and security guards. Fisticuffs from the opening act were recorded on video, the cops landing a few solid blows.
Finally, experiences of whistleblowers like Shamai Leibowitz explain why Edward Snowden is unlikely to ever return home to the US, unless we turn the tables like people are doing elsewhere in the world today.
Soon we'll hear from Dan Roberts, when he presents The Shortwave Report for December 6, 2013. Call it a day.
