California prison hunger strike supporters at San Francisco street fair
The hunger strike by California prisoners is now in its 42nd day. At a street fair in the Tenderloin organized by the Glide Methodist Church, supporters of the striking prisoners hosted a display which replicates the cells, also known as "Security Housing Units," in which California prisoners sentenced to solitary confinement must live. KPFA's David Landau spoke to a former prisoner about the horrendous conditions he was forced to live in, which included, he said, being left in freezing temperatures with little clothing, and eating moldy lunchmeat he wouldn't feed to a dog.
