The Leverett’s new book will serve as centerpiece for a debate on U.S. / Iran relations. While the authors pose this extremely complex issue as essentially demanding a simple either/or solution, many believe that is a falsification insulting to many – if not most – Iranians. This complexity will be explored, revealing other crucial aspects of life in Iran today under Ahmadinejad and the Ayatollahs.

“Armchair warriors howling to have a go at Iran will denounce this book: you can count on it. Those who have had a bellyful of needless wars will have a different view. Going to Tehran is balanced, sober, impressively documented, and rich in insight. As an antidote to the warmongering that passes for analysis of Iran and US-Iranian relations, its appearance could hardly be more welcome or more timely.” —Andrew Bacevich, author of Washington Rules: America’s Path to Permanent War

The United States and its allies are ever closer to military confrontation with Iran over nuclear munitions, oil trade, and relations with Israel. We have sustained 30 years of failed foreign policy based on economic sanctions, isolation and covert assaults within Iran. In Going To Tehran, renowned Middle East analysts Flynt and Hillary Leverett assert that “Iran has become the most critical country in the world’s most critical region. Without reconciliation with Iran, they insist, “the United States is on the verge of losing its strategic position in the Middle East, with disastrous consequences.” —Seymour Hersh, The New Yorker

FLYNT LEVERETT served at the National Security Council, State Department, and CIA. He is currently a professor of international affairs and law at Penn State. HILLARY MANN LEVERETTserved at the National Security Council and State Department and negotiated for the U.S. government with Iranian officials. She is now a senior professional lecturer at American University. Their writing has appeared in The New York Times, Politico, Foreign Policy and Washington Monthly.

PROFESSOR MANSOUR FARHANG teaches international relations and Middle Eastern politics at Bennington College in Vermont, where he has been a faculty member since 1983. He is the Catharine Osgood Foster Chair for Distinguished Teaching. Farhang served as revolutionary Iran's first ambassador to the United Nations, resigning in protest when the Khomeini regime refused to accept the U.N. Commission of Inquiry's recommendation to release American hostages in Teheran. Early in the Iran-Iraq war, he served as envoy in negotiations with international peace missions. Currently, he is on the advisory board of Middle East Watch, a branch of Human Rights Watch. He is the author ofU.S. Imperialism: From the Spanish-American War to the Iranian Revolution; and, with William Dorman, The U.S. Press and Iran: Foreign Policy and the Journalism of Deference. He is also a frequent contributor to scholarly journals and the national news media. He has taught at the Claremont Graduate School, the California State University at Sacramento, and Princeton University, where he was also a research fellow at the Center for International Studies. BA, University of Arizona; PhD, Claremont Graduate School.

On KPFA's website, this government fascist propaganda is advertised as promoting the 2 CIA agents as follows:
FLYNT LEVERETT & HILLARY MANN LEVERETT Going to Tehran: Why the U.S. Must Come to Terms with the Islamic Republic of Iran. Hosted by Hosted by Brian Edwards-Tiekert.

There is nothing to debate on Iran. Any war with Iran is by definition a war with Russia, a major nuclear power, and another disaster, to say the least. The fact that Republican operative Tiekert is hosting this KPFA benefit is nauseating. Most of us are too poor to tolerate this kick in the teeth. This writer will not be sending another contribution this year; February's contribution was enough. We get so very little from KPFA and now we not only have this sponsorship of Nazi USA's mouthpieces, KPFA also suspended JR Valery, whose criticisms are excellent. See
http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2013/03/19/18733866.php

We receive a daily insult with the KPFA evening weekday news, and sometimes also on the weekends, with its endless fillers, Democratic Party promotions, and support of the CIA's Tibet "independence" movement, to provide a short list. This writer happened to catch a mention of Lynne Stewart and the petition for her compassionate release, found at
http://www.change.org/petitions/petition-to-free-lynne-stewart-save-her-life-release-her-now-2
on Hard Knock Radio just before the 5 p.m. Flashpoints show of 3/20/13. Flashpoints, which has interviewed Lynne's husband, Ralph Poynter, as well as Lynne Stewart, has not uttered one word about this petition for compassionate release. On 3/20/13, we had a half hour promoting a novel. We had an entire week of the administration of the Catholic Church all day long on KPFA, an organization dedicated to promoting superstition, just like all other religious organizations, to maximize profits. We get very little from KPFA and then they have the nerve to scream at us for money for 3 weeks each in February, May and September or October, and 1 or 2 weeks in December, when as JR states, most of the money goes to reactionaries like Tiekert, who makes $25,000 a year plus benefits, including full pension, unheard of for part-time workers. This small salary cannot be why Tiekert sits at KPFA; his politics demonstrate that he is a government operative. He never fails to interview reactionaries, such as promoting the police in Oakland when the fight over giving stop-and-frisk Bratton was before the Oakland city council.

This is worse than the the 1950s and 1960s, a time when we had Bill Mandel discussing the Soviet Union supportively here in anti-communist USA, a time when we had more classical music and a time when we had a regular weekly labor show. We need a radio station that is openly for socialism, always refers to the 9/11 Inside Job as such, has more classical music programming than the Sunday morning from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m., which should continue, has Workweek Radio as its weekly labor program, cuts the news department down to a half hour each week night and provides new programs in the new half hour slots each weeknight, does not promote Tiekert or his fellow government operatives or their fascist causes such as the Tibet "independence" movement and is always loud and clear in defending our fighters, the current one in need being Lynne Stewart, whose life is on the line. Please do sign the Petition for Compassionate Release at
