10 years Since Invasion of Iraq; Ten Years of Demonstrating at Peace Crossroads in San Jose
On Saturday, September 30, 2006, David Ledesma was threatened with arrest for placing anti-war standup signs on the sidewalk at Stevens Creek & Winchester boulevards, where the cities of Santa Clara and San Jose in the South Bay meet. It has been almost five years since the side for Free Speech was won; it is ten years since lovers of peace have been gathering at the same intersection.
On Saturday, March 16, 2013, demonstrators commemorated the 10th Anniversaryof the U.S. led war on Iraq, and celebrated ten years of weekly protest at Stevens Creek & Winchester boulevards in San Jose.
It all began in March 2003 as South Bay Mobilization called for public protest against the impending U.S. led war on Iraq. Hundreds mobilized at the major intersection to begin what would evolve over the years into an on-going presence of public protest for many causes. From the US war on Iraq, Freedom for Palestine, support for the Green Revolution in Iran, No on Prop 8, support for organized labor, 911 Truth, and numerous candle light vigils, thousands of people over the last 10 years from the South Bay and beyond have participated in public protest for Peace and Justice at this intersection known as Peace Crossroads.
