The oppression of women continues to reach new heights - from the global rape crisis, to the non-stop attack on abortion and reproductive rights, to the pervasive objectification and commodification of women’s bodies. At the same time, movements have emerged around the world to challenge these injustices, both overseas and here in the U.S.
Join a discussion that will address Marxism, feminism and the struggle for women’s liberation. What is the source of the oppression of women? What are effective strategies for resisting it? And who are allies in that struggle?
Inessa Armand, first leader of the 1917 Russian Revolution women’s department, observed that “if women’s liberation is unthinkable without communism, then communism is unthinkable without women’s liberation.”
Featuring Deepa Kumar, Associate Professor of Media Studies and Middle Eastern Studies at Rutgers University, and author of Islamophobia and the Politics of Empire
