Stop The Scam! CCSF AFT2121 Faculty/Students/Supporters of Pub Ed Protest Chancellor & Privatization
Hundreds of CCSF AFT 2121 faculty, education workers, students and supporters of public education protested the welcoming ceremony for the new chancellor Dr. Thelma Scott-Skillman on Friday January 11, 2013. Despite the passage of Prop A, a tax on property to pay for the college, the school management is cutting classes and dismantling the college under orders from the privatizers running the accreditation commission. The administration has unilaterally cut wages 8%, demanded eliminating healthcare for part time workers and has helped to downsize the college by refusing to print the class schedules. Faculty were angry about the contempt the accreditation commission has for the school workers and the students. Some were also angry that CCSF SEIU 1021 Chapter president Athena Steff had told the staff workers including the 33 laid off employees not to support the rally and speak out. "Please have our 33 members in your thoughts on Friday in our Respectful manor as we are away from the college..."
Some AFT 2121 members also challenged the growing privatization of education and the concession bargaining that the union has engaged in to save the college.
