This January 5, 2013 (Saturday), people in Santa Cruz, Ca. took part in an action designed to draw attention to, and highlight both local and international consequences of fossil fuel extraction, including the tar sands in Alberta, Canada and the construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline, and oil extraction by Hydraulic fracturing (fracking) of the Monterey Shale and California, in solidarity with Tar Sands Blockade, Idle No More, Chief Spence, and all those who work for climate justice and the protection of the land,air and water. ![]() solidarity_action.jpg We had tea, made new friends, waved at the traffic below, and received the many excited honks from all the cars and the excited greetings from all the foot and bike traffic on the bridge, got the corporate media to film us, for two people there, it was their first time ever doing anything like that! hoo-rah! Thank you Rising tide Monterey Bay, Tar Sands Blockade Santa Cruz Solidarity, and all the peeps who showed up!
