After an exciting planning meeting Saturday the group has decided on a location for the solidarity action with the Tar Sands Blockade. We will meet on the High st. pedestrian overpass for a family friendly gathering to display our signs and banners from 1pm to 3pm.
The founding members of two new Santa Cruz environmental action networks, 'Tar Sands Blockade, Santa Cruz Solidarity Action' and 'Rising Tide Monterey Bay', are joining together with shared interests to sponsor an awareness and informational campaign on January 5th., The focus of the event will be to highlight both local and international consequences of fossil fuel extraction. Our message will be that regardless of the issue, whether it be the tar sands in Alberta, Canada and the construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline, or oil extraction by Hydraulic fracturing (fracking) of the Monterey Shale and California, the toxic effects of Fossil Fuels on our planet can no longer be denied and ignored. You and I need to find our voice and take actions toward creating a sustainable future. Now.
Everyone is invited to join us on the High Street pedestrian overpass. Saturday, January 5, 2013, 1:00-3:00 pm.
