Panel Discussion
|
Pomona College students, professors, alumni, and workers are engaged in a powerful movement for justice that has taken center stage around the national issues of immigration, income inequality, and workers' rights. When Pomona College dining hall workers began to raise concerns about their working conditions and asked for a fair process to organize a union, they faced major obstacles. There were threats by management, anti-union comments by the College, a gag rule that prevented workers from talking with the students, and an unwarranted immigration investigation. Last year, the College did an investigation into workers' documents authorizing them to work in the United States, and then fired 16 dining hall workers, many of them who had been working at the college for decades. Today, the Pomona workers are standing up strong. Will you join them?
