While the NY Times reports that 5.85 million ex-offenders will be denied the right to vote tomorrow, despite having served their time, San Francisco County jails are a bright spot, with the highest inmate voter registration and voting rates in the State of California. Many San Francisco inmates have been asked to register for the first time in San Francisco county jails. Audio: 2 minutes, 6 seconds.
Listen now:
San Francisco Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi spoke to KPFA about inmates registering and voting, many for the first time in their lives, in the San Francisco County jail system.
