Redbird is a 501(c)(3) Native American and environmental non profit association. The blanket, toy and school supplies drive is our annual charitable event. This year we have “adopted” the community of Swift Bird on the Cheyenne River reservation in South Dakota, in addition to the communities/groups we support each year. Our goal is to provide each of the residents of Swift Bird (just over 100) with a new blanket, and for each of the children, a toy. These will be shipped via Fed Ex. In addition, we will send blankets and soft toys to the White Plume family in Manderson, South Dakota to distribute among their community, shipped via U.S. Mail. We will donate all hard, heavy, boxed toys and school supplies to Walking Shield, a southern California based non profit agency whose distribution network
spans reservations across the United States.
WHAT WE NEED:
NEW*, lightweight, washable blankets (fleece or flannel are the least expensive and warmest)
NEW* toys for kids from toddler to late teen (items that do not require electricity or batteries are best)
NEW* school supplies; pencils, pens, chalk, crayons, notebooks, backpacks, etc.
NEW* cold weather accessories (mittens, gloves, beanies, scarves, heavy socks)
DONATIONS to offset the cost of shipping
*Due to the cost of shipping, we can only send new items via Fed Ex or USPS. Like-new items can be donated locally. You are welcome to join us whether or not you are able to make a donation.
