"Fired" for Taking A Stand for Grocery Workers!

by GW 99%
Defender of the working class Roger Rivera was recently fired from his job as a union representative at United Food & Commercial Workers Local 5. The grocery workers union represents 28,000 workers throughout the Bay Area & Northern Ca. Roger Rivera was taking a stand for all of us!
Typically it’s the corporate boss that does unjustified firings to the working class, not this time! Rivera was fired by the UFCW Local 5 union president Ron Lind. Grocery workers have been involved in a long 10 month negotiations process with the large grocery chains and are being forced to accept a contract that would cut workers wages by $5.00 an hour, eliminate most paid holidays, Sunday premium, and overtime pay etc… dismantling with one swoop of the pen what grocery workers had stood and fought for over the past 50 years! Lind, is more concerned with being “business partners” with the grocery corporate big-wigs than he is with taking care of us, the dues paying grocery workers (the workers who pay his lavish salary). Angered by the hypocrisy of the whole deal, Roger Rivera was having none of it and openly confronted Lind while at a strike vote meeting. Shortly after Rivera challenged Ron Lind’s presidency of the local grocery workers union. With the help of rank n file members Rivera had enough signatures to be put on the ballot. Within days of announcing his candidacy Roger River was “fired” from his job at UFCW Local 5 on trumped up charges of “insubordination”.

More on Rivera’s story can be found @ uncharted.ca

After 33 years of dedicated service to "us" the rank n file members of UFCW Local 5 Roger Rivera a single father of two girls 9 & 14 is now unemployed only “one year” away from his eligibility to retire under the “Rule of 85”. Roger’s caring for the working class cost him everything and that’s just intolerable!

Roger Rivera took a stand for us, now “we” are taking a stand for Roger!

Hi, we'll not be able to attend the dinner, but would still like to donate $ to Roger Rivera's cause. Is there a website where we can do that?
