On Friday September 2, 2012 Oakland Airport Fast Food Workers and their
supporters picketed and rallied to demand an end to retaliation for union
activity by Subway restaurant and also to allow unionization. Workers are
fighting for healthcare, breaks and rights on the job. Operations include
See's Candies, Burger King and others.
Despite laws against discrimination against union supporters the owners of
Subway and other fast food franchises have fired and harassed union
supporters. The Port Of Oakland has also supported the union busting by
allowing workers to be written up with citations for delivering petitions for the
right to organize while on their off days. There is an epidemic of illegal
retaliation against union supporters including as well the Casino San Pablo.
The Port Of Oakland Board of Directors is also attacking SEIU 1021
members who work for the port at the same time.
