Cuba, Torture, and Republican Lies

"It's the story of my father, imprisoned and tortured in Cuba, beaten nearly to death. He fled to Texas in 1957." -Ted Cruz, Texas Republican Senate candidate at the Republican National Convention.

Of course the Cuban Revolution didn't take power until 1959. Ted Cruz's father was brutally tortured by the U.S. backed Batista dictatorship. Of course Ted Cruz fails to mention that fact. Batista's dictatorship lasted from 1952-1959 and had the financial backing of U.S. imperialism while U.S. corporations plundered the labor and natural resources of Cuba. According to John F. Kennedy, with U.S. backing, "Fulgencio Batista murdered 20,000 Cubans in seven years..."
