Please Help the People who Feed People!

East Bay Food Not Bombs! is a not-for-profit, all-volunteer group
that has been serving free vegetarian meals in People's Park, Berkeley
five days a week for more than 20 years. We also serve in Oakland at
various locations, the Sunday meal in front of the Sutter Hotel being
the longest running and most consistent. Our website, ebfnb.org, has
the most up-to-date information about our servings, information about
the group, and a cookhouse map.
We have been doing food pickups for at least 15 years with an 8
ft. Bikes at Work bike trailer, which has finally gotten so messed up
that no one wants to use it any more. We need a new one; there are
two and often three of the People's Park meals that use only pedal
power, as well as several food pick ups that could be done with a
heavy duty (2-300 lb. capacity) bike cart. Talk about a negative
carbon emissions footprint!!! The old bike cart saved our environment
immensely, and for us to continue to do our work appropriately, we
need to continue to foster the ethics and principles of food recycling
using just human power.
In response to this need, Harold Adler has graciously cooperated
by allowing the use of his ART HOUSE GALLERY & CULTURAL CENTER at 2905
Shattuck Ave. (between Ashby and Russell), on the evening of September
1 from 6-10 pm for a meal from 6-7 pm, and performances from 7-10 pm.
Featured performers are; BEET THE SYSTEM, GRACE UNDERPRESSURE,
AYR + FRIENDS, COLIN + SAMMY (from Cambria), and spoken word poetry by
ARTHUR FONSECA.
The food will be vegetarian, and there will be cake to be eaten.
