Good Riddance "Hooters"

by Anne
A Hooters restaurant is now gone from San Francisco. This chain of restaurants named after women's breasts had been in the Fisherman's Wharf area of the city for several years and has vanished into thin air!
I was so relieved after noticing that the spot where this stupid restaurant used to be had a bike-rental shop in its place. Not believing my eyes, I asked a worker at the shop to verify its demise. Tonight after some Internet research, it's not clear if it was a lease issue, lack of novelty, or the food, but I did come up with a labor issue and this is like pouring salt into a wound. It's bad enough to have a job where it's expected that you put up with customers that make comments full of sexual innuendo to you, but apparently, there is a lawsuit claiming the women did not get all their tip money, among other things. Please read the article from Huffington at

Perhaps it was simply their lack of power as a chain. Larger corporate operations: Ross, Subway, McDonalds, and Payless Shoe stores are all in the Wharf.

It's bad enough the residents of San Bruno have to put up with a casino but we have a hooters, as well. I don't know what the city council and the city manager were thinking. I expecting a strip club any day now!
