Carpenters hold information picket at Clovis hospital

by John Crockford
A group of local Fresno area carpenters held an information picket yesterday in front of Clovis Community Hospital to bring attention to practices by the hospital administration and its construction contractor, Target Constructors, that are hurting the community.
In a significant expansion of the medical facility in Clovis, California, Community Medical Centers of Central California has hired Target Constructors, Inc. to oversee the $300 million dollar project but is not requiring the company nor its subcontractors pay its workers standard wages and benefits.

A handful of construction workers positioned on the sidewalk on either side of the Temperance Ave. entrance to the hospital handed out fliers and were asking others to call the hospital and the contractor to "let them know that not requiring the payment of area standard wages and benefits established by carpenters in the area on all their jobs hurts the entire community."
