Press Conference: Mountain lion killed by Santa Monica Police
Tomorrow Wednesday May 30, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. In Defense of Animals and others will be holding a press conference at Santa Monica City Hall, 1685 Main Street, Santa Monica 90401. The purpose of the press conference is to discuss the killing of the young male mountain lion on May 22, 2012 in Santa Monica. The goal is to help prevent the killing of mountain lions and other large animals in similar situations in the future.
Four speakers will talk about ways in which we can humanely deal with animals in similar situations.
Jack Carone, In Defense of Animals Communications Director.
Jennifer Conrad, DVM, Director and Founder of Paw Project. Wildlife expert.
Mary Cummins, President of Animal Advocates. Wildlife expert, licensed by Fish and Game to rehab small mammals (coyotes, bobcats, etc.).
Michael Milligan, resident of Acton, co-exists with mountain lions.
Mary Cummins of Animal Advocates stated "we would like to work with the California Department of Fish & Game and Santa Monica Police Department to help formulate a plan to prevent the unnecessary killing of animals at large in the future. We're prepared to help the Departments with their 'After Action Reports' and 'Corrective Action Plans.' We're also prepared to help with the actual capture of animals at large."
