This one-hour, free webinar is designed for reporters and photographers covering protests and other events where there is the possibility of being detained or otherwise thwarted from reporting news events occurring in public places. This includes the Occupy protests generally and specifically the NATO Summit in Chicago, and Republican and Democratic National Conventions in Tampa and Charlotte.
Reporters Committee Executive Director Lucy Dalglish and Legal Defense Director Gregg Leslie will explain the foundations for journalists' right to cover news, and what reporters should expect and do if detained by police.
The webinar is part of a toolkit of resources that includes a printed guide of the same name, which is available free at http://www.rcfp.org, and special hotlines for reporters covering the summit and political conventions.
