OCCUPY OAKLAND WILL PROVIDE SUPPORT IF WORKERS LEAD A SHUTDOWN OF THE GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE ON MAY DAY.

In the event that the Golden Gate Bridge workers choose to strike and hold a hard picket line on the Golden Gate Bridge on May Day, Occupy Oakland will physically support their action to shut down the West Coast’s most famous icon.

Hundreds of workers, ranging from ferry workers to machinists, have been in negotiations for over a year now. The Golden Gate Bridge Labor Coalition reports that it has made $2 million in concessions each year. Occupy Oakland stands in solidarity with workers who have struggled against a company that bridges consumer and worker communities, tourists, and products to the profit-generating business centers of San Francisco.

If at least one bridge-worker strike is publicly announced, a picket line is established at or on the Golden Gate Bridge, and the line is honored by the Golden Gate Bridge Labor Coalition members, Occupy Oakland will join Occupy San Francisco in shutting down the bridge.

Occupy Oakland has and will continue to support picket lines. Whether or not Occupy Oakland participates in this action, O.O. will continue to seek out strategic ways to support struggles of the working class.

As an Indigenous elder to Occupy Oakland I recommend the following precautions to all. First, Do not get caught in the middle of the bridge to be kettled and have an early day being incarcerated as the first action of the day. The protest can come from both sides of the bridge without the being trapped giving you two opportunities to shut it down. Remember a good action can cause the police to shut down without anybody getting arrested. Secondly, to the warrior society if you have other actions planned for the rest of the day watch out, you will be targetted by the police. Finally I as an Indigenous elder will be there and will provide needed protection. Remember January 28th
