South Bay Committee Against Political Repression is hosting a silent art auction featuring local artists and live performances by Mextape and The Word. The theme of this event is "Justice/Justicia for Carlos Montes!" This fundraiser will raise money for the legal defense of Carlos Montes, Carlos is a Veteran Chicano activist from L.A. known for his leadership in the 1968 East Los Angeles education reform movement, the Chicano Moratorium against the U.S. war in Vietnam, and the recent immigrants' rights marches in 2006. Carlos was also a co-founder of the Brown Berets and continues his work as an activist for immigrant rights. He is currently the target of the FBI as his house was raided by the L.A. Sheriffs on May 17, 2011 in which the FBI attempted to question Carlos as his computer, political documents, cellphones, and meeting notes were being confiscated. Carlos is one of 24 activists whose homes have been raided as requested by the FBI since 2010. He is now facing possible prison time on trumped up weapons charges. Help stop the political attack on Carlos Montes! Buy some great art to donate to the cause!
