2 Short Documentaries: "Motherhood By Choice, Not Chance" and "We Always Resist"

This screening is in conjunction with the League of Women Voters of Sacramento County, Planned Parenthood Mar Monte, and the American Assn of University Women.

A panel discussion will follow the documentaries. Panel includes: Dr. Glennah Trochet, former Sacramento County Public Heath Officer; Ana Sandoval, Planned Parenthood; and Christi H. Ketchum, Our Rightful Place LLC.

Motherhood by Choice, Not Chance (2004): By Oscar-nominated filmmaker Dorothy Fadiman. Based on the trilogy, From the Back-Alleys to the Supreme Court & Beyond, this riveting film brings alive the history of the struggle for women's reproductive rights in the U.S. and the chilling facts about the current threat to those rights. Intimate interviews reveal the passion of people who moved abortion from the danger of the back alleys to a safe, legal choice.

We Always Resist (2011): This 24-minute film provides an informative history of the struggle for reproductive choice within African American communities and argues that black women have always considered reproductive choice a fundamental part of how they defined liberation for themselves and their communities. The documentary also examines recent radical "anti-choice" campaigns based on race, gender and class.
