is wanted for questioning by Kenyan authorities about a suspected
terror plot, The Times has learnt.
Anti-terrorist officers in Nairobi suspect that Samantha Lewthwaite, 28, who was married to Jermaine Lindsay, the suicide bomber who blew up a Tube train at King's Cross [in Central London] in 2005, may have been part of a cell planning a terror attack in the coastal city of Mombasa last Christmas. The Kenyans are hunting a female suspect who evaded capture when police swooped on the group last December. [...] She has had three identities in the past and that [Samantha Lewthwaite] is one possible identity," Eric Kiraithe, a Kenyan police spokesman, said yesterday. [...] The Kenyan authorities have been liaising with the [London] Metropolitan Police over the continuing operation. The Met [i.e. the London Metropolitan Police] sent a large team of detectives from its Counter Terrorism Command to Nairobi to assist with the investigation and attempts have been made to trace her in Britain. [...] The terror cell is thought to have been directed by al-Shabaab, the Mujahidin group which is waging a guerrilla war against Kenyan security forces in neighbouring Somalia.
