Hotel Frank Weekly Three-Dot Report (#5)...

Hotel Frank bosses are targeting our chief Shop Steward, Ali Abid, with a series of garbage disciplinary actions. Ali has worked at the hotel for 30 years. One of our racist managers has taken to calling Ali, who is 63 years old, his "little boy."

In response, we held a special picket line action on Thursday, January 26. Thanks to the many workers who came out, including members of AFT Local 2121, SEIU, ILWU and, of course, the IWW - plus friends from ANSWER, the Green Party, Gray Panthers, Jobs with Justice, East Bay Solidarity, POOR, and more...

"Unfortunately, I feel it my obligation to have my review mention the fact that we were very disturbed by an ongoing protest in the front of the hotel. We were disturbed by the drumming and loud chanting as early as 7:00 a.m. on at least two mornings that we were there. The only saving grace in regard to the protest was the fact that they posted their hours on their FB page (which I located with only minimal sleuthing), so we knew when to expect the rhythmic chanting. However, they did add in an extra 7 a.m. routine for our listening pleasure.

"If I were to visit S.F. again, I would enjoy staying at Hotel Frank, but not if the protest is still occurring. That was not the sort of birthday serenading I was hoping for, needless to say."

Hotel Frank was auctioned off in a foreclosure sale in May, 2010 by WELLS FARGO.
The bank then sold the hotel to a financial speculator called AEW CAPITAL MANAGEMENT.
The hotel is now managed by a company called PROVENANCE.

Since the foreclosure sale:

• Management refuses to recognize the Union contract that existed for nearly 40 years.
• Management has not reached an agreement with us to continue our medical coverage or pensions.
• We all have to work an extra half-hour per day for free.
• Room cleaners clean many more rooms, even if it means skipping breaks and meal periods.
• Staffing has been cut at the front desk and in housekeeping, while the workload has increased.
• A federal judge has found the hotel guilty of firing and disciplining workers for Union activities
