New Website to Defeat the Recall of KPFA's Tracy Rosenberg

by Mara
The move to recall Tracy Rosenberg as a member of the KPFA Local Station Board is part of a strategy by the SaveKPFA/KPFAworker faction to control KPFA and Pacifica, democratically run community resources, for their own ends.
Ignoring financial realities, they opposed the economic necessity to lay off some paid staff members at the station, casting it as a political vendetta to their side, and involving scores of listeners in this deception. All the other Pacifica stations and Pacifica itself had had to make such cuts; only this group, involving a small faction of core paid staff and a heavily politicized listener group they helped to form ("Save KPFA"/"Concerned Listeners"), fought these cuts.
Please help defeat this destructive recall. Vote NO on the recall, tell your friends, and check out this new website for more.
From the website:
"Are you fed up with the constant internal fighting at KPFA? Do you believe these public conflicts are destructive to our station, our community, and our culture on “the Left”? Do you want KPFA to stop wasting money and energy on these fights so it can return to financial stability and rise to meet the immense challenges of our times?

Vote NO on the Recall
of Tracy Rosenberg

The chief charge against Tracy is that she supported staff cuts at KPFA. The truth of the matter is that if KPFA had lost another $500k last year (as they did in the previous two years) then KPFA and Pacifica would be in bankruptcy today, and most of KPFA’s staff would have lost their jobs."

Pro-Rosenberg Recall Endorsers Listed at savekpfa.org

12 are current members of the local board affiliated with Concerned Listeners/Save KPFA - 33%
3 are programmers from the old Morning Show - 8%
6 are married couples - 16%
19 are current or former staffers - 53%

Above is a totally dishonest comment.

What savekpfa's list shows is the broad support of community/listener reps as well as unpaid and paid KPFA staffers.

What the "no on recall" list shows is broad support from scabs and scab-supporters, all of whom do pretty crummy radio.
by See above
The above comment is revealing of the toxic poisonous way the entrenched KPFA staff treat their coworkers. Big reason why they're in the mess they're in. Very unpleasant.

The site put up by Rosenberg's supporter got 61 endorsers in its first 24 hours. Only 11 of them are KPFA staff or 18%. The vast majority are long-time dedicated KPFA listeners, who have been active around independent media issues and KPFA politics.

Save KPFA is also obscuring the difference between endorsing their slate for the LSB and endorsing Rosenberg's recall. They've already had to take down several names after implying they supported the recall effort without asking them. Pretty grody.

by is broad
There are so many supporters/endorsers of SaveKPFA they spill out all over the organization's website, from "big" names to ordinary listeners. Hundreds have been writing letters and signing petitions for the last year.

For instance, here's just the latest SaveKPFA petition:
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/pacifica_recall_oversight/signatures/page/19

And this is only 1 page of 19!

So please, stop the silly claim that Rosenberg has more endorsers. And be aware that many of those signed are her friends or people she's given air time to doing some kissing up.

These are the same folks who have run the station into the ground for the last 30-40 years. Shallow LibDems, ex-CPUSA hacks, PC jerks all. They have typically stolen the name of the original Save KPFA group two decades which they opposed and they collaborated in the 1995 purge and only spoke up when their asses were on the line in 1999. I call them the Bensky Boob Brigade.

The Recall Tracy folks are attributing magical powers to Tracy Rosenberg, in the form of many actions she could not possibly have accomplished!

To 'is broad':
You give Tracy too much power - how can she "give (anyone) airtime"? So you must have no idea who Tracy is or how programming is allocated at KPFA.

Some facts: The ED planned to have the Morning Show staffed by other paid staff.
Their shop steward(s) prohibited paid staff from taking any such position.
So volunteers stepped up to create "the Morning Mix".

A working Program Council with paid & unpaid staff, including department heads, and others, would have been the body to allocate airtime - had not core paid staff & Concerned Listener/SaveKPFA faction elements first destroyed it and then stalled its reformation.

It is true, however, that many CL/SK endorsers endorse them because they control who has access to the airwaves as guests. Although there was also a KPFAworker/SaveKPFA request to community members to NOT participate in Morning Mix programming. So others had to be presenters/interviewees. They were all called "scabs" by the SK, even though there was no picketline they had to cross! In fact, the CWA union is prohibited from such "job actions".

Didn't you hear to the BFUU "video cast" the other night, where Sasha Futran recounted in detail how the Morning Mix was entirely created by Tracy?

Oh, I bet that part will be edited out when it is finally circulated.

Anyway, for more accurate information, these:

by Hear the other side too
We would need more accounts to be able to believe that Tracy and/or Tracy alone was responsible for programming the Morning Mix.
Remember, the original idea was for other paid staff to take over the morning show. They opted out. (This was an illegal "job action", by the way, prohibited by the union contract.)

The ballots were delayed because Save KPFA forces would not agree to the impartial election supervisor first chosen.
When SaveKPFA sent out their card in December, they asked listeners to harass Pacifica over this deadline, when they already knew the deadline could not be met.

And lots of details are explained here:

It's a little difficult to keep up with the 5,000 different charges being randomly thrown around. Had I known someone said I "programmed the Morning Mix" at that forum before I arrived there, I would have said something about it.

I didn't program the Morning Mix. It was a proposal submitted by a bunch of unpaid staff after the union staff stated in defiance of their contract they were refusing lateral transfers to the AM time slot. I think 2 different ones were submitted.

(The illegal job action later broke down and Davey D now participates in the Morning Mix, along with other local 9415 members).

I did make a call to Mickey Huff and Peter Phillips at Project Censored to see if they might be able to contribute some content. I've always been a fan of their work. When they said they wanted to talk about it, I put them in touch with others.

That's not exactly "programming the morning mix".

These exaggerated and hysterical accusations are really getting wacky.

I can only wonder what agenda all the noise is trying to cover up.
"Didn't you hear to the BFUU "video cast" the other night, where Sasha Futran recounted in detail how the Morning Mix was entirely created by Tracy?

Oh, I bet that part will be edited out when it is finally circulated. "

Futran sold out the listener democratic movement because it wouldn't kiss her _ _ _ and she hates Tracy since Tracy used her and then dropped her, as Tracy sometimes does. No rational person will pay any attention to Sasha Futran's ultra narcissistic distortions of history.

Futran is the one that tried to get Henry Noor, her slate mate, kicked out of the 2009 election because he produced his own election leaflet and didn't praise Sasha in it.

There is no real basis for the recall. It is another power move by the CL/Save KPFA sectarians that want absolute control over KPFA and they will lie and distort reality to win power no matter what the cost to KPFA and Pacifica.
