Hotel Frank Weekly Three-Dot Report (#3)... Hotel Frank Cancels Martin Luther King Day

Hotel Frank bosses no longer recognize Martin Luther King's birthday as a holiday. Hotel Frank workers established Martin Luther King's birthday as a holiday decades ago, even before it became a recognized federal holiday in 1986.

But that changed when WELLS FARGO, AEW CAPITAL MANAGEMENT and PROVENANCE threw our UNITE HERE Local 2 contract in the trash...

Can you spell R-A-C-I-S-M?

...Martin Luther King was assassinated in 1968 while in Memphis, Tennessee supporting a sanitation workers strike. King was becoming a living link between the movements for civil rights, economic justice and the dignity of labor.

Martin Luther King, when he was assassinated, was also organizing the POOR PEOPLE'S CAMPAIGN, essentially an OCCUPATION of Washington D.C.

"We believe," said King, "the highest patriotism demands the ending of the [Vietnam] war and the opening of a bloodless war to final victory over racism and poverty."

This was Martin Luther King in 1968, but his leadership is sorely missed today, in 2012 America.

It isn't hard to understand why King was assassinated, or why the Hotel Frank bosses refuse to recognize Martin Luther King Day...

Hotel Frank was auctioned off in a foreclosure sale in May, 2010 by WELLS FARGO.
The bank then sold the hotel to a financial speculator called AEW CAPITAL MANAGEMENT.
The hotel is now managed by a company called PROVENANCE.

Since the foreclosure sale:

• Management refuses to recognize the Union contract that existed for nearly 40 years.
• Management has not reached an agreement with us to continue our medical coverage or pensions.
• We all have to work an extra half-hour per day for free.
• Room cleaners clean many more rooms, even if it means skipping breaks and meal periods.
• Staffing has been cut at the front desk and in housekeeping, while the workload has increased.
• A federal judge has found the hotel guilty of firing and disciplining workers for Union activities
