New Zine for Hackers / Noisebridgers launching, seeking contributors
ZiP (Zine in Progress) is a publication arising from and devoted to Noisebridge, a(n) (un)hip and (un)happening hackerspace in San Francisco’s Mission District. Seeking content & contributors. Details below.
ZiP (Zine in Progress) is a new quarterly publication started in December 2011 for hackers, specifically centered on the Noisebridge hackerspace (http://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Noisebridge) in San Francisco's Mission District. Each issue will be available in a limited-edition print version and on-demand as well as online. Hackers of very type are encouraged to contribute! That means programmers, networkers, phone hackers, printmakers, writers, indy media pundits, artists of all kinds, Occupiers, anarchists, and everyone else. We will have a place for politics and anti-oppression philosophies but we also have a sense of humor and will make space for satire and free speech which may not always be politically correct or palatable to those of high sensitivity.
Prospective contributors should design 2 pages following the specs below. Content for the first print issue needed by Jan. 10 for a projected Sunday, Jan. 15 launch date.
Submit TIFF files (TIFF is a less compressed higher quality file than a JPEG) sized at 5.5" wide by 8.5" tall (half a regular sized sheet of paper turned horizontal, i.e. "Landscape" orientation), 300 dpi (300 pixels per inch). We can send you blank pages in this format if necessary. Fill with your content & design as you please. Alternately you may cut & paste or design pages by hand, then scan them at 300dpi resolution or higher & send to us for inclusion in the print zine. We are using Adobe InDesign for the layout. A web portal is being created right now, using Drupal and an F2F network, to be the ZiP's online home. Disregard the ConvoZine URL displayed on Front Cover Image; that's from an earlier version.
More information, along with ideas, sections, crazed whims etc. is available at http://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Zine in lieu of the web portal-in-development. Also, weekly Planning & Brainstorming sessions held weekly Thursday 9pm at Noisebridge (2169 Mission Street, San Francisco). Please RSVP if you plan to attend. Message us with inquiries or for further info.
