U.S. Election 2012- Stewart Alexander Wants U.S. Out of NATO
U.S. Presidential Candidate Stewart Alexander has charged that NATO’s involvement in the over-throw of the Gaddafi Regime violated the March U.N. Security Council resolution that called for a no-fly zone over Libya and was a criminal action against a sovereign government. “I stand with U.S. Congressman Kucinich calling for the criminal prosecution of the NATO commanders; I am also calling on the U.S. Congress to end the U.S. membership in NATO.”

Last week, U.S. Congressman Dennis Kucinich stated that NATO commanders should be prosecuted by the International Criminal Court; now U.S. Presidential Candidate Stewart Alexander is calling for an end to the U.S. alliance with NATO.

Security Council resolution that called for a no-fly zone over Libya and was a criminal action against a sovereign government. “I stand with Congressman Kucinich calling for the criminal prosecution of the NATO commanders; I am also calling on the U.S. Congress to end the U.S. membership in NATO.”
According to the Business Insider, Congressman Kucinich stated, “NATO’s top commanders may have acted under color of international law, but they are not exempt from international law. If members of the Gaddafi Regime are to be held accountable, NATO’s top commanders must also be held accountable through the International Criminal Court for all civilian deaths resulting from bombing.”
Stewart Alexander has insisted that the U.S. and NATO’s involvement in Libya was purely based upon Libya’s rich oil reserves; now that Gaddafi is out, “the NATO gangsters are ready to divide the spoils of war.” Alexander says the political reasoning behind the war in Libya is problematic, “It had everything to do with timing and opportunity.”
David McReynolds with the Socialist Party USA notes, “The events in Libya are tragic because they are a civil war, not part of the North African Spring. Far more violence has been used in Syria, with no word of NATO intervention. At last report Saudi Arabia had over a thousand troops loaned to Bahrain, with no hint of NATO intervention. What makes Libya different? It has oil.”
Stewart Alexander is seeking the U.S. Presidential Nominations for the Socialist Party USA and the Peace and Freedom Party- California; the two socialist parties are calling for the disbanding of NATO and all other aggressive military alliances.
Alexander is also endorsing the protest for the Chicago G8 and NATO summits scheduled for May 2012. Alexander says “The G8 and NATO summits is no more than a meeting of gangsters; I support this activism by the protesters, standing in opposition to war, globalization and the violation of human rights.”

We need legitimate international institutions to stand up to genocide and famine. No institution led by the USA can do that. We should oppose all trials at the ICC, including Gaddafi, until US war criminals are subject to its jurisdiction.
