On Sunday, June 12th, hours before Johannes Mehserle was set to be released from Los Angeles County Jail for having killed Oscar Grant by shooting him in the back, hundreds rallied in Oakland at Fruitvale BART station. From 3pm to just after 4pm, before a march to downtown began, numerous speakers addresses the injustice of Mehserle serving less time than most people convicted of lesser offenses. Included here are four videos of speakers at Fruitvale including members of Oscar Grant's family Jack Bryson and Rosa Mesa; Cary Downs, stepfather of James Rivera Jr., who was killed by Stockton police in July 2010; Grant family attorney John Burris; and Nation of Islam Minister Keith Muhammad.
