May 15, 2011 Nakba Commemoration in San Francisco
Some 40 people, mostly Palestinian Americans, attended a colorful and lively demonstration at Union Square in San Francisco on May 15, 2011, marking the 63rd anniversary of the Nakba when the Zionists expelled 750,000 Palestinians from their centuries-held lands, and continue this outrage at the expense of the American taxpayers to the tune of $6 billion a year, all to protect US oil profits in the Middle East. The tide is now turning.
We had lots of large Palestinian flags, educational posters and leaflets and tremendous enthusiasm from the entire crowd who kept up a variety of chants for most of 2 hours. A gorgeous Boycott Israeli Goods poster with a huge orange being squeezed highlighted the current Boycott, Divest, Sanctions movement that is now part of the strategy to end the Zionist occupation of Palestine.
The historic events in Tunisia and Egypt have shown the way for increased opposition to the Zionist occupation of Palestine. That, along with the demographics whereby the combined Arabic population of Historic Palestine, the West Bank and Gaza is 5.9 million while the Jewish population is 5 million, should guarantee that the Zionist occupation of Palestine could end in 5 years, along with the decline of its imperialist patron, the USA, which is crumbling faster than anyone can blink.
From the river to the sea,
Palestine will be free!
