Vigil, No More Blod in Mexico

Date:
Saturday, May 07, 2011
Time:
5:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Event Type:
Vigil/Ritual
Organizer/Author:
Miguel Robles
Location Details:
Plaza Union Square ( At the corner of Powell at Geary)

Poet and journalist Javier Sicilia, whose son was brutally murdered like so many other human beings, called a march in Cuernavaca and other Mexican cities on April 6, and 50,000 people marched.

They mounted plaques on city halls with the names of innocent poeple killed in the war declared by President Calderon and supported by the United States, in which nearly 40,000 people have died for no reason.

Now, he is calling for a national march on Sunday May 8 (see video in Spanish here) in the main square of Mexico City.

We Mexicans ask for your support to demand publicly that we don't want more blood in Mexico! We express our solidarity, our pain, to all the families in Mexico who have suffered the violence, the displacement, the lack of justice, the militarization, the war against drugs and against citizens, the logic that the violence has to get worse before it gets better, the indifference and lies about so many civilian lives trapped in a war that doesn't end until the people say, No, No more blood
