Anti-Nuclear Peace Marches on March 19 in US

by Peacenik
On this 8th anniversary of the illegal US invasion and occupation of Iraq in its agenda of blood for oil wars to maximize profits, we are also witnessing another profiteering horror, that of a nuclear holocaust caused by the breakdown of nuclear power in the face of earthquakes and tsunamis. Go to the nearest peace march on March 19 to support solar, wind and tidal power for clean, safe, renewable energy, for an end to blood for oil wars and an end to the whole deadly private profit system.

Here is the announcement, which also condemns the pending attack on oil rich Libya, and the false imprisonment and torture of Bradley Manning, courtesy Democrat Barack Obama, who is also a strong nuclear power advocate and was long before the 2008 election. Only criminally insane politicians support nuclear power. See

March 19 is the 8th anniversary of the invasion and occupation of Iraq. Today, Iraq remains occupied by 50,000 U.S. soldiers and tens of thousands of foreign mercenaries. The war in Afghanistan/Pakistan is raging.
While the U.S. will spend $1 trillion+ for war and occupation in 2011, 30 million people in the U.S. remain unemployed or severely underemployed, and cuts in education, housing and healthcare are imposing a huge toll on the people.
Sponsored by the March 19 Coalition. Defense of the Environment

The same corporate forces and economic system that exploit and brutalize the world's working class people are destroying the world's biosphere. These social policies and ecollogical destruction often overlap. Socialism is necessary to end the ecological destruction caused by capitalism. Our goal is a society that is in harmony with nature as it is in harmony with its own people.

We therefore favor:
•Planning for urban and regional environment based on principles of sound ecosystems management.
•Create public open spaces in all communities.
•Tighter regulation of pesticides, herbicides, industrial wastes and genetically modified foods to protect human food, air and water, employees in the workplace, and species habitat. No release of genetically engineered or transgenic organisms into the wild. No patenting of life forms.
•A multi-source energy system, development of solar technology and other renewable, non-polluting energy sources. Eliminate nuclear power plants. End fossil fuel dependence.
•Public ownership of public utilities.
•Protect species habitat such as old-growth forests to preserve biodiversity.
•Massive development of free public transportation.
•International trade agreements must guarantee the protection of the environment in all participating countries.
•End environmental racism, including the immediate cessation of nuclear testing and toxic waste dumping on reservation lands, the disproportionate creation of landfills in poor communities of color and eliminate the mass development of maquiladora plants.

The California Green Party is at:

and statement on front page:
Environmental watchdog, with family in Japan, says U.S. must 'examine' posture toward nuclear power; insists alternatives safer and more economically viable
SACRAMENTO (Mar 15, 2011) - A Green Party environmental watchdog - whose wife's entire family resides in Japan - said today that it is "inevitable that the United States must re-examine its own posture regarding not only the future of nuclear power, but also the management of the 104 nuclear power plants already operating" in the U.S.
"The Green Party, and especially the Green Party of California has always taken an anti-nuclear stance...based on a sober risk assessment and the knowledge that there are better alternatives which can meet our energy needs. (The) onetime cost advantage for nuclear is no longer true," writes Wes Rolley, former co-chair of EcoAction Committee of Green Party of the U.S. (http://cagreening.blogspot.com/2011/03/finding-energy-to-do-it-right.html)
