This week's show features stories from China Radio International, Spanish National Radio, Radio Deutsche-Welle, Radio Havana Cuba, and The Voice of Russia.
From CHINA- The Chinese Premier is calling for China citizens to prepare for hardships and risk taking to push forward reforms. There are reports that the "one-child policy" may be abandoned in a few years. 10,000 houses have been condemned following the earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand. South Korea will begin using unmanned drones and stealth jets to keep an eye on the North. President Karzai of Afghanistan says that private security and reconstruction firms need to be disbanded.
From SPAIN- 2 leaders of the Basque separatists movement ETA were arrested in France. The President of Chile offered Spain support and encouraged investment in Chile's renewable energy programs. A brief update on Libya from Wednesday.
From GERMANY- Germany is skeptical about a no-fly zone over Libya, and Turkey is strongly opposed to it. The Euro is gaining strength against the dollar, and one quarter of Germans who observe Lent will skip internet use as their sacrifice.
From CUBA- NATO is using AWACS surveillance over Libya and Robert Fisk reports that the US has a secret plan to arm rebel forces. Both Cuba and Venezuela promoted their gains in gender equality on International Womens Day. Afghan President Karzai rejected US General Petraeus's apology for the recent death of 9 Afghan boys. Israel F-16 fighter jets bombed buildings under construction at the Islamic University in Gaza City. Israel plans to seek an additional $20 billion in military aid from the US due to the uprisings in the Middle East. There was a largest demonstration for social rights and against the neo-liberal model in Santiago de Chile. President Obama is lifting the 2 year freeze on new military trials for detainees at the Guantanamo Prison.
From RUSSIA- Two press items from Russian newspapers- China is blocking news about the Middle East revolutions and being quiet about the attempted Jasmine Revolution in their own country. A comparison of spending on international media propaganda. A Russian expert on the Middle East discusses the causes of events in the Middle East and North Africa.

I was interviewed for an informative weekly radio show Mediageek, available at http://radio.mediageek.net
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 6:30pm (PST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via < http://www.kzyx.org >
There are several other streams that work better- < http://www.freakradio.org >Freak Radio Santa Cruz now streams this program on Friday at 9:00am.(PST)
NEWLY CORRECTED!!! The Shortwave Report may be downloaded as a podcast from < feed://radio.indymedia.org/en/podcast?keys=shortwave++
Check out the amazing streams at < http://www.radicalradio.org >

I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt! (maybe a little)

Spain's war of extermination against the insurrection of the pilgrim hostellers may not be an exception on the background of Islamic history, but from the perspective of Europe and its older experiences with religious war and spiritual trauma it is just too close to cultural self-mutilation to pass as normalcy. Did that government not learn anything from the farce in the aftermath of the Madrid bombings, when fellow Europeans were wrongly blamed for an apparent outside attack? If Spain continues against better knowledge and kills every single one of them, what will stop it from turning on the other European governments to pressure them to do the same to sovereign provinces there? Who would have to worry more, these who already experience some of this like in Irland, or those who might have something to lose from it like in Bavaria? Or is it to the disadvantage of all Europeans alike, because such a despicable policy depreciates the entire union's human rights expectations for membership applicants?
It may indeed be the result of an international attention deficit that Israel is shifting its choice of target from plausibly purposeful to merely symbolic. Of course there are gradual differences in this distinction, but with the attack on the university under construction there also is a new low end to the scale (there was not even a claim of stealth military installations there). It can be asked either why is such a zero purpose action being pursued or why does this particular target have a symbolic value in the perception of the perpetrators? Usually the answer is either a strategic dead-end has been reached or the explanation why that is so is being associated with whatever the target it perceived to stand for. This happens on the background of a widening schism between scientific community and secret police in the West, as expressed in the resignation of a cabinet member in Germany over a title scandal or the medical objections in the Bradley Manning torture case. Not just in Israel but all over the West there are so many covert war criminals who do not like the public to ever know the truth about the demise of Ariel Sharon. What did his secret police confess to him that virtually killed him?
