Vallejo Free Press is looking for writers
Vallejo Free Press is a new web-based publication cover art, music, and more through the greater vallejo area. The existing (corporate) media completely ignore vallejo and it is virtually impossible to find coverage of local events and news. We aim to change that. We are looking for folks to write about news, events, art, music, & local shows, gardening, cooking, and anything and everything else happening throughout the greater Vallejo Area.
The goal is to create the online equivalent of the East Bay Express or the SF Bay Guardian for the greater Vallejo area (Vallejo, Benicia, American Canyon, etc). Since I moved here 2 years ago I've had a ridiculously hard time finding good local news and nobody but nobody is covering the local art or music scenes. The Vallejo Times-Herald is mostly copy-pasted from the AP wire and has almost no local news. Ozcat Radio (89.5 fm kzct, our new community radio station) is a great resource but we need more.
Our website is currently LIVE with filler content. Once launched the site will feature not just news but a community calender, discussion boards, and more. Topics covered will range from local politics to gardening tips for our local micro-climate to coverage of our local arts and music scenes.
Deadline for the first round of articles is February 25th, if you want to be involved, now is the time to get in touch. Please use the form on our website (http://www.vallejofreepress.net/our-writers/ ) to send a writing sample and what types of events you're interested in covering.
