As a result of the recent update released by the National Transportation Safety Board over the causes of the San Bruno Fire the California Public Utilities Commission has ordered PG&E to reduce the pressure in its gas lines.

In response the to NTSB's recent update about the cause of the San Bruno gas line explosion PG&E has been ordered to reduce the pressure in its gas lines. The NTSB investigation did not directly state that welds failed when pressure was too high, but it is "alarmed" enough to order that utility company to take action. The report indicated that no external corrosion was found on the failed piece of pipe, but it also said that the piece of pipe had only been welded on the outside. Most underground pipes are welded from the inside and outside. The California PUC has stated that the pressure will need to be reduced in only two lines, the one running from Oakland to Fremont, and the one running from Fremont to Milpitas. There is no mention of any of the lines running down the Peninsula, or near the area of the explosion.
The San Bruno gas pipeline explosion, aka the San Bruno Fire claimed 8 lives and destroyed many homes. It put many neighborhoods, and people in danger. The scene at the explosion was chaotic, unpredictable, and out of control.
Rep. Jackie Speier, D-Hillsborough, said she is still worried that PG&E does not have accurate or complete records about it's gas pipelines.

I have included a map of the gas lines in the San Francisco Bay area.
