Call to support community FM radio

by OPEN
Reposted from Prometheus email blast... Support San Diego community radio by visiting http://www.openbroadcast.info/
Guess what the big broadcasters are telling your senator? Read all about it here and then help to set the record straight on low power FM.

Last week, in an effort to halt the passage of the Local Community Radio Act, the National Association of Broadcasters sent a memo to senators saying:

“Currently, thousands of slots are available across the country for new low power stations. The Federal Communications Commission could license these frequencies to any group or organization today, without any change in policy.”

If you don't agree, let them know by calling the NAB at 202-429-7150.

The big broadcasters say they want more LPFM on the dial, but they have organized secret holds in the Senate to keep the bill that would expand it from passing. It's lies like "there's plenty of room" which keep a few Senators on the NAB's side. If we call the NAB Government Affairs office and make them defend their lie, they'll have to scramble for something else to tell an increasingly impatient Senate!

After working with groups who have waited for ten years to have a voice on the air, we are wondering where these thousands of slots are ... under Lake Michigan? ... In the Mohave Desert?

Congress needs to pass the Local Community Radio Act now, to allow community stations to use open space on the radio dial, especially in urban areas.

If you don't agree with the NAB's lie that there's already room for LPFM, call them at 202-429-7150 now and let them know.
Here's a sample script: "Hi, I'm NAME from TOWN in STATE. The NAB recently told Senators that there are currently thousands of slots available for low power radio licenses. But the way the NAB has the rules currently stacked, only the most rural areas are eligible for Low Power Radio. I am asking the NAB to let radio thrive and stop holding up the Local Community Radio Act with misinformation."
