Can you please explain the concept in general terms for those of us not in the know?

A virtual sit-in is a form of electronic civil disobedience deriving its name from the sit-ins popular during the civil rights movement of the 1960s. The virtual sit-in attempts to re-create that same action digitally using a distributed denial-of-service attack. During a virtual sit-in, hundreds of activists attempt to access a target website simultaneously and repetitively. If performed correctly, this will cause the target website to run slowly or even collapse entirely, preventing anyone from accessing it.

Please mirror the tgz file attached for the october 7th action on your host or your local machine and post a url here! The extension is pdf now, so it would upload and would be downloadable, so just rename it to tgz and unzip it.

I can't open the downloaded pdf. I get the message: "Adobe Reader could not open 'oct7th-vsitin.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)." I also do not see a list of URLs at the link to where you send us for a list of URLs.

UPDATE: Apparently UCOP.edu is trying to block the virtual sit-in, please use this new updated action code for your mirrors or on your local computer!
Download the pdf and rename it to oct7th-vsitin-update.tgz to extract it. | |||||||||||||||||
