On Thursday, August 26th, the first day of classes for students, UC Berkeley students, workers and alumni activists released hundreds of balloons at Cal's largest lecture halls in order to raise awareness of the Oct. 7th strike for public education as well as facts about the continued attacks on public education.
Dozens of the balloons remained in the classrooms all day and were viewed by thousands of students. The balloons even reminded professor Ananya Roy of the International and Area Studies and City and Regional Planning to move her Global Poverty midterm. Numerous activists at other campuses have expressed interest in replicating the action.
