Attorney Ed Frey, homeless people from PeaceCamp2010, and other community members will be asking the Homeless Services Center [HSC] Board of Directors at their monthly meeting to release a brief letter.

The letter will document that there is no walk-in emergency shelter between April 15 and November 15 except via a waiting list which as a 4-6 week delay.

This was already testified to in court by Shelter Manager and HSC employee Daniel White under oath recently, but White and the HSC has so far refused to put these facts down on paper and make them available to homeless people and the community generally.

This continues to give police a rationale for waking, harassing, and ticketing sleeping homeless people at night--particularly those publicly protesting these policies.

Joining in the misinformation campaign, Sentinel editor Don Miller has quoted Executive Shelter Director Monica Martinez as claiming that there is shelter available regularly on Mondays (See http://www.santacruzlive.com/blogs/dmillereditor/2010/08/12/snooze-you-lose-in-santa-cruz/).

Hopefully the HSC Board will correct these false and damaging claims of adequate shelter at the 5:30 meeting today.
