This August 2010, students from across California’s colleges and universities will come together to embark on a 540 mile bike tour known as the California Tour de Dreams. This will be the second annual Tour de Dreams to raise scholarship funds for underrepresented and historically marginalized students, who are/will be the first in their families to go to college. Our mission is to raise awareness about the rising cost of higher education and to show students that with a little creativity, they too can achieve their dreams, to show that just because we are in most cases completely disenfranchised from the institutions that are put in place to insure access to a higher education we can collectively create our own access to higher education. Combining our collective efforts to have collective successes.

This year 50 students will be riding their bikes and a team of 25 volunteers who will tour from UC Berkeley to UC Los Angeles, stopping at different campuses along the way to hold press conferences to address the importance of access, affordability, and diversity in higher education today. To make this dream a reality, we are counting on individuals like you to sponsor the tour. We are not pro-cyclist many of us do not even have bicycles. It is in this that we need your support there are many bicyclist here in Santa Cruz and Monte Ray Counties many with more then one bike and people that do not use their bikes any more. Help us by contributing your unused bikes so that we in turn can help ourselves continue our education.

Adult Road and Mountain Bikes Preferred, thank you.
The Watsonville Bike Shack will be assisting in the collection and repair of donated bicycles.
The Bike Shack is a youth-run bicycle repair and training project sponsored by the Watsonville Brown Berets. The goal of the Bike Shack is to provide healthy and safe spaces for youth, help care for our environment, and provide free bike services to the local community.

The donation of your bicycle will be tax deductible.
