Northern California’s status as the home of high-quality marijuana didn’t need much reinforcement, but the region dominated the competition at the first High Times Medical Cannabis Cup in San Francisco.

Mr. Natural Inc. took home top honors Sunday night as best Indica with its Cali Gold, while first place for Sativa went to Green Bicycle collective of Crescent City with its God’s Pussy varietal. (With a name like that, it’s good to know it’s grown organically.) The best concentrate also hailed from NorCal, with Leonard Moore Cooperative of Mendocino getting the trophy for its Ingrid-derived hash.

“It’s nice to see that ice-water extraction can take home the cup,” said Gabriel Martin, who accepted the hash trophy. Placing second was Phillips Rx for its Herojauna, while 7-Star Holistic Healing Center of Richmond took third place for its Grandaddy Purple Wax.

The Green Door dispensary of San Francisco won a second-place sativa trophy with Candy Jack, while third place was awarded to Purple Lotus Patient Center for its Durban Poison. The start-up San Jose dispensary plans a July 9 grand opening even as the City Council is set to discuss a new medical marijuana ordinance Tuesday.

Second place for indica went to Elemental Wellness of San Jose, which entered its True OG. Rounding out the category in third was Tehama Herbal Collective (THC) of Corning with its Bubba Kush.
