Sacramento City Council Approves Boycott Against Arizona
Sacramento now officially joins the numerous cities throughout the nation in “Boycotting Arizona."
Brothers and Sisters/Hermanos y Hermanas
Our mission to convince the Sacramento City Council to not only "Condemn SB1070: the Arizona Racial Profile as passed by the Arizona Legislature, legalizing "Racial Profiling,"was endorsed and passed in "Boycotting Arizona" and doing business with the State Arizona and any other business entities.
We salute the Sacramento City Council, with the exception of the following council members; Steve Cohn, who cowardly walked out and voted by abstention; the recently defeated Robbie Waters. who adamantly voted "NO:" and Lauren Hammond, who did not even appear at last night's council meeting, which is very disappointing.
We want to highly commend all those labor and community leaders and members that have worked hard and in attending the numerous meetings, marches, and getting our people out. What was important was that numerous labor and Civil rights and community organizations leaders and their members can take credit for last night’s Victory of our Capital City.
Sacramento now officially joins the numerous cities throughout the nation in “Boycotting Arizona." ”Si se Pudo, even though we did not appreciate how the Mayor and others dissected the "Speakers" list as to who would speak and in what order. Our member organizations Union Civica Primero de Mayo and the Oraganizacion de Trabajadorse Agricolas (OTAC) were not allowed to speak, much to the underhanded manipulation!.
I also want to point out that although some of our brothers and sisters, who supported the “Boycott,” and not negating their support and participation, we can and will not accept their exclusionary politics of political posturing and backdoor meetings with Kevin Johnson. They attempted to highjack the efforts of those immigrants who have worked hard.
Wh do I make reference to these “politicos” is that at no any did they invite any of our “Coalition members” in their “Backdoor discussions” with the Mayors office. To this day we have never seen them at any of the Immigration marches that our member organizations worked hard in mobilizing and marching.
Credit goes to all the labor and Community Member organizations who have been active, as we visually observed how last nights “Press Conference” by this unknown group who attempted to “hijack” the efforts of thousands of our members' hard work to the point that they attempted to exclude the grassroots efforts of many, as if they were the only group.
When one of our members requested from Ex-chief of Police Arturo Venegas ,to also speak in Spanish when participating at the press conference, he adamantly and arrogantly responded "No I will NOT speak in Spanish." In other words, he wanted only to speak to the English media and disrespected those immigrants that are directly impacted with his lack of respect to All that were in attendance at this "Press conference."
We do not respect these type of underhanded “Politics.” We are not looking for “Political Positions;" we are doing this because we believe in justice. So in the end if we claim that as was exclaimed last night “We are all united as one community,” then they should practice what they preach and give credit to those immigrants that were not allowed to speak at whose Press Conference?".
Great work Companeros/as this Victory was because of ALL OF US TOGETHER THAT DID IT !.

Estimados Hermanos y Hermanas
