CITY SOLO
June 6, 13, 20
Sundays at 7pm

A dyke, a baby-butch, a boi, and a femme walk into at theater...
Four lesbian solo artists join forces to rev up for SF Gay Pride 2010!

CITY SOLO is a fresh series featuring a rotating cast of Bay Area solo stars. Each show features a dynamic line-up of four short pieces, written and performed by the solo artists themselves. The hottest solo showcase in San Francisco, CITY SOLO brings together top rate talent under one tent for a night of comedy, drama, and everything in between.

The June 2010 line-up will be gay-tastic! In anticipation of the San Francisco Gay Pride celebrations at the end of June, CITY SOLO invites the Bay Area's top four lesbian solo artists to the Off-Market stage:

JANINE BRITO
In "My Diary, No Grownups Allowed!" Janine shares stories from her life from 1993-1994, a very tumultuous time that saw the death of Superman, the birth of Seventeen magazine, and a new line-up of Saturday morning cartoons.

JULIA JACKSON
Julia rides the roller-coaster world of adoption in "I Didn't Sign Up For This!"

THAO P. NGUYEN
"I Am Sooooo Gay" is a coming out story you definitely haven't heard before. Thao is gay-er than a rainbow-farting unicorn. Yet somehow her parents haven't noticed. Well, it's time for her to break the news.

MARTHA RYNBERG
"Lady Parts" isn't the show you think it is. Mostly it's about hair removal on public transportation and reconstructive surgery after taking a bullet. It's about mom thighs, tiny breasts, body odor, and women's magazine sobriety. There's really only a little bit of vagina in this show -- because contrary to public assumption - a woman is more than the sum of her 'lady' parts.

ARTIST BIOS:

JANINE BRITO (writer/performer/comic) started doing stand-up comedy in St. Louis and has performed at clubs, colleges, and theaters throughout the US and Hong Kong. Now a rising star on the San Francisco scene, she is a regular at the Punchline, winner of the 2009 SF Women's Comedy Competition, and opener for the Laughter Against The Machine Comedy Tour.

JULIA JACKSON (writer/performer/comic) is a comedienne and solo artist known for her biting social commentary, as well as actually biting audience members from time to time. This rising comedy star has performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and was a Semi-Finalist in the San Francisco International Comedy Competition. Her solo performance piece "I Didn't Sign Up For This!" was selected for the 2009 San Francisco Theatre Festival. Julia appeared in the film "Some Prefer Cake," and has worked with Robin Williams, Dana Carvey, and Paul Mooney.

THAO P. NGUYEN (writer/performer/producer) has been writing and performing solo shows since she joined the Solo Performance Workshop in 2007. Her director, the critically acclaimed W. Kamau Bell (SF Weekly's 2008 Comedian of the Year; "Four Stars" in Time Out New York and SF Chronicle), has awarded her with the coveted "W. Kamau Bell Solo Performance Black Belt," a distinction which to this date has been awarded only four times. She also co-produces two monthly solo performance series in San Francisco: "Words First" at CounterPULSE and "City Solo" at Off-Market Theater.

MARTHA RYNBERG (writer/performer/director) came to solo performance on a whim in 2006 and has been hooked ever since. In addition to creating several solo pieces of her own, she is the original director of the critically acclaimed W. Kamau Bell Curve: Ending Racism in About an Hour and has been a Solo Performance Workshop facilitator since late 2008. Martha's own work explores the intersections of inheritance, parenting across racial lines, internalized misogyny, and adoptionism. She has been described as the creative love-child of Jim Carrey and Carol Burnett.
