T4CW 3.29.10: Marching for the Future of our Schools

The teachers interviewed Students and Teachers Marching up the Central Valley to Sacramento, making their voices heard to protect funding for education in California, whether Elementary, University, or somewhere in between. We spoke with Jenn, Manny, Clay, Naomi, & Jose about why they're marching. 25 minutes/MP3 format.

The marchers spoke up about the impacts of the cuts on their own communities and families, as well as their own education. They talked about tax structures and politics that put students last, and emphasized that the money is there, but the will is lacking.

Wednesday, March 31: Planada to Merced; Cesar Chavez Day
Public Event:
• 7:30AM Staging and marching from Houlihan Park, East Stanford Avenue, Planada, CA 95365
• 11AM Lunch at Merced Fruit Barn, 4526 E. Highway 140, Merced 95340
• 1:30PM Marchers meet with local walkers at corner of Bear Creek and M Street. Walk along bike path 1 mile to Sierra Presbyterian Church.
• 3PM Marchers arrive led by Veterans Color Guard at Sierra Presbyterian Church, 3603 M Street, Merced 95340. Community arrives to greet marchers, for health fair, for food and program.
• Fair scheduled between 3 and 7 pm.

Thursday, April 1: Merced; Townhall Meeting

• 4PM Rally on Lawn at UC Merced (near dorms and Dining commons on Scholars lane)
• 4:30PM Town Hall Meeting; UC Merced Library “Bobcat Lair.”
