Women Making History Awards Ceremony recognizes women from every District in San Francisco

Women from every district in San Francisco were recognized to day at City Hall. The Mayor too chose one candidate to honor. Many supporters came to cheer those being awarded. Following the award ceremony in Room 250 - there was a reception in the North Court with more speech making and awards given by San Francisco Commission on the Status of Women. The SF Commission on the Status of Women that organizes this event since 1996 - supported by then Mayor Willie L. Brown Jr - who supported the Commission on the Status of Women.

Every year since 1996 the San Francisco Commission on the Status of Women support by then Mayor Willie L. Brown Jr - has awarded women leaders in the community and commended them for their contribution to Society as a whole and to San Francisco in particular.

The ceremony is held at the Board of the Chambers - Room 250 at City Hall. There is lots of speech making and lot of cheering and women from each and every District and we have eleven in San Francisco - were commended and showered praises.

The Mayor chose one candidate who has contributed her talents at the SF Health Department - bring health services to thousands. Her work is recognized Nationwide.

The many who filled the Chambers cheered their candidates and it was heart warming to hear and watch the many women that this City honors for contributing their talents to make our great City and County of San Francisco the best ever.

The many speech revealed how some women against great odds - over came every possible hurdles to serve their fellow children, men and women. Indeed this City must feel very proud that we have so many great women that do so much for our City.

Those honored were Tangerine M. Brigham honored by Mayor Gavin Newsom.

Karen Crommie honored by Supervisor Ross Mirarimi from District 5.

Gail Coldyne and Chief Joanne Hayes-White honored by Michela Alito-Pier from District 2.

Judy B. Grossman honored by Supervisor Bevan Dufty from District 8.

Supervisor John Avalos from District 11 honored Maria Bernardita Herrera.

Supervisor Eric Mar from District 1 honored Hene Kelly.

Celine Kennelly was honored by Supervisor from District 7.

Chang Jok Lee from District 3 was honored by Supervisor David Chiu.

The organization Mujeres Unidas y Activas was honored Supervisor David Campos from District 9.

Supervisor Carmen Chu from District 4 honored Lorri Ungaretti.

Rachel Paras from District 6 was honored by Supervisor Chris Daly.

La Shon Walker and Louise Winterstein from District 10 were honored by Supervisor Sophie Maxwell.

The mission of the San Francisco Commission and Department on the Status of Women is to ensure the equal treatment and foster socioeconomic, political, and educational advancement of women and girls throughout San Francisco, through policies, legislation, and programs, both within City and County government and in the private sector, focusing on population in need.
